摘要：

This paper reviews the development of the New Zealand high voltage transmission system and its relationship to the environment. It refers to the performance of the 600 MW HVDC transmission, including the converter stations and the Cook Strait submarine power cables. It deals also with the performance of transmission lines. The effect of earthquakes is outlined, also the steps taken to cope with harmonic problems. Finally the paper outlines possible development options including the expansion of the HVDC link.
