Sub Sea International Inc. recently devised a unique method to carry out in-service dry weld repairs to cracks in fillet welds found during an annual inspection of Ocean Drilling and Exploration Co. 's (Odeco) mat-supported jackup, Ocean Conquest. The method involves the use of a hyperbaric dry welding habitat and a diving bell. The selected welding process was a low hydrogen stick electrode procedure designed to minimize problems associated with hydrogen induced cracking.
