Effects of surface roughness in the flow passages of components of a centrifugal compressor stage (impeller, vaned diffuser, etc. ) on hydraulic losses in the flow passages have not received adequate study to date. Empirical data have been garnered mainly from tests on turbine stages. This article cites test results on an end type centrifugal compressor stage with vaned diffuser, with the surface roughness of the vanes on one of the walls varied in the course of the tests.
