摘要：
Global data transmission requirements are growing by leaps and bounds. Providing solutions to this explosion are advances in microelectronics such as CMOS technology and the development of optoelectronic transmit and receive modules. These and other technologies are in turn having a profound impact on communication systems such as the ISDN, and on switching and transmission systems. A survey of key technologies that are appropriate for specific purposes is given.
