摘要：
Prereduction of chromite before smelting in an electric arc furnace offers several advantages. The authors' investigation on carbothermic reduction of pure chromite prepared synthetically reveals that, at initial stages of reduction, the iron oxide component gets reduced forming Cr//2O//3 which is subsequently reduced at later stages. Four possible diffusion-controlled mechanisms in reduction of chromite with carbon are examined.
