A convolution code with Viterbi decoding is compared to a nonredundant code at different information transmission rates in a gaussian channel with a limited bandwidth. Computer simulation showed that an optimum choice of the code rate with DELTA f tau //n equals 1. 25 allows one to obtain a relative energy improvement of more than 4 db with an error probability less than 10** minus **5.
