A study was carried out to demonstrate the essential features of the fascinating phenomenon of velocity-selective coherent population trapping (VSCPT) in the simplest possible case. Such a phenomenon was observed in a two-level atom that has no truly dark states. Observation was facilitated by working in a region where the usual requirement for laser cooling is not satisfied.
