The problem is to recognize the evaluate offending noise sources and to select the most economical, functional, and reliable method of controlling noise. Determining the long-range costs of a noise control project requires knowledge of the expected lifetime of the machines and processes involved, and of anticipated changes in OSHA regulations. Three steps are involved in the process of determining noise control solutions for typical manufacturing facilities. The first step consists of conducting a noise survey to locate troublesome areas. The second step consists of locating and evaluating individual sources responsible for high noise levels. The third step in the process is the selection of noise control concepts.
