Preparation of Tc = 109 K Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconducting thin films from Amorphous Bi-O/Sr-Ca-Cu-O structures

The successful preparation of superconducting Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O thin films has been obtained by a new method based on an annealing process of amorphous Bi-O/Sr-Ca-Cu-O layers. Films of Bi-O were deposited on as-sputtered Sr-Ca-Cu-O films on MgO substrates by electron beam evaporation. These Bi-O films were diffused uniformly into Sr-Ca-Cu-O films for crystallization to Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O by annealing. A zero resistance temperature as high as 109 K was achieved for a 150 nm-thick sample, in spite of an absence of Pb.
