摘要
The authors explain how to develop and select a stabilizing fluid for troublesome, sloughing shale. Mud constituents required for shale stabilization include (1) an inorganic salt to prevent hydration of the shale, (2) an organic coating agent to prevent shale breakup, and (3) a material for mechanical stabilization of the wellbore. Swelling day concentration, fracturing and dip influence the selection of a stabilizing fluid. Flaxmeal is cited as the best material for preventing shale disintegration.
