Manpower planning becomes quite complex and acute in a high technology environment. In this environment, operators and maintenance personnel must be highly trained or skilled and the product or process of making the product changes rapidly. The manpower planning problem becomes one of determining, as closely as possible, requirements for skilled technicians well into the future so that procedures can be implemented in time to acquire the necessary skilled and trained personnel when required. This paper suggests that material requirments planning (MRP) is a very powerful and probable method for attacking this complex problem and demonstrates its use in an example.
