Effect of cyclic stress-strain behavior on the prediction of fatigue life for carbon steel

Making a comparison between effects of two types of cyclic stress-strain empirical equations σ = 1.73 σbεp0.160 and σ = 0.90 σbεp0.189 were considered in predictions of fatigue life for the carbon steel under push-pull loading. It is a greater influences on accurate prediction of fatigue life that the cyclic deformation of behavior and the behavior of the material can be derived by the tensile strength of the materials. However, it became very simple and convenient to predict the fatigue life for these materials. It was proposed a prediction fatigue life for carbon steel with the two kinds empirical relationship between cyclic stress and strain based on the small crack growth law in this paper. The results of relative accuracy analyses confirm that the cyclic stress-strain behavior by the fatigue tests are better than another by assuming the material yielding under 0.2% strain deformation conditions.
