Neutral cyclodextrin (CD)-modified capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) has been applied to the chiral separation of four basic drugs - clorprenaline, benzhexol, esmolol and terazosin. Selector screening and concentration optimization experiments were performed. The resolution was 3.9 for clorprenaline, 2.3 for benzhexol, 3.1 for esmolol and 1.2 for terazosin when the running electrolyte was 60 mM hydroxypropyl-βCD, 15 mM heptakis (2,3,6-Tri-O-methyl)-β-CD, 60 mM γ-CD and 60 mM heptakis (2,6-di-O- methyl)-β CD, respectively, in 50 mM, pH 2.5 sodium phosphate buffer.
