Procedures are demonstrated in which selenium can be introduced or removed from the phosphorus center in a selective or stereo-selective way. A discussion is presented of the stereochemistry of optically active selenophosphorus compounds and diastereo-isomeric cyclic seleno-phosphorus esters. An examination is also made of the stereochemistry of oxidation of selenophosphoryl compounds, and included is general information about the application of **3**1P nuclear magnetic resonance structure determination of selenium-phosphorus compounds.
