Performance analysis of a multi-phase genetic algorithm in function optimization

摘要
This paper presents a new method for function optimization. The method uses a multi-phase genetic algorithm (MPGA). The MPGA uses a simple GA with many phases. Each phase is initialized with a set of best individuals from the previous phase and a random set of individuals. The multiple phases are introduced in a simple GA to realize the effect of multiple initializations. The proposed method is implemented and tested for a set of 4 standard test functions. The results show that the initializations in the intermediate levels help converge quicker.
