Potentiostatic and Pulsed Potentiostatic Precipitation of Uranium on Liquid Bismuth.

A study was made of the production of uranium-bismuth alloys by galvanostatic, potentiostatic, and pulsed potentiostatic electrolysis of melts consisting of KCl plus NaCl plus 4. 3 wt% UCl//3 at 700 degree C with a soluble uranium anode. It is shown that in the pulsed potentiostatic regime a highly efficient (about 96%) production of uranium-bismuth alloys is possible, with a maximum uranium concentration equal to the solubility of uranium at 700 degree C in close conformity with the thermodynamic composition-potential dependence.
