Studies have shown that the maximum degree of spontaneous deformation of iron and an iron alloy containing 8% Cr is observed at a hydrogen pressure of about 3 MPa. A decrease in density occurs as a result of the formation on inclusions of pores which grow in proportion to the number of thermal cycles. The main parameter affecting the character and the intensity of the process is the hydrogen pressure.
