Study of the service conditions in the slide gates of new designs of continuous casting machine tundishes

Pouring of steel on a continuous casting machine through tundishes with use of stoppers or stopper monoblocks with an increase in pouring time does not provide a constant rate of pouring and the capability of automation of the process in serial pourings. In recent years in pouring of steel with use of tundishes there has been a tendency toward replacement of stoppers and stopper monoblocks with slide gates. Production tests have been conducted of reciprocating and rotary types slide gates on the tundishes of Orsk-Khalilov and Cherepovets Metallurgical Combines. The technology and organization of production of slide gates and inner nozzles of various refractory compositions have been developed. The designs of tundish slide gates need more improvement.
