Noise reduction in the casting shop - Some practical examples

This article represents a compilation of some of the relatively inexpensive, and eminently practical ways in which foundries have been reducing noise levels. The examples iclude the use of rotary vibrators in sand consolidation; an angle nut-runner in the finishing shop; screening a shot-blast unit; the use of a plastic coating on steel to reduce impact noise, and the use of simple dividing walls to reduce fettling-shop noise.
