Basic aluminum chlorides are products having many industrial uses. Different preparation methods are described. All processes were examined and a new design for an electrolytic cell developed. It is an electrochemical reactor with an inner circuit. The production of basic aluminum chlorides with a high ratio between OH and Al in the molecule is possible without precipitation of solid basic aluminum compounds. A suitable raw material could be the aluminum chloride solutions from the acid clay leaching process.
