MASS TRANSFER IN THE ELECTROSLAG PROCESS - 1. MASS-TRANSFER MODEL.

Although much effort has been devoted to the study of heat transfer in the ESR process, only limited work has been done on the closely related aspects of mass transfer. Part 1 of this work is a critical review of the reports of chemical reactions and mass transfer in ESR, and the development of a mass-transfer model for the simple example (Mn**2** plus ) plus Fe(1) reversible reaction (Fe**2** plus ) plus left bracket Mn right bracket //F//e is presented. Mass-transfer coefficients are calculated for the reaction sites using available data and modified penetration theory.
