Problems of anisotropic fibre reinforced composites are discussed. Experimental results are approximated by theoretical models developed for non-linear anisotropic laminated materials. A correlation has been found between irreversible processes taking place in composites and mechanical luminescence. A domain of initial cracking and ultimate strength in the stress space has been approximated by a tensor-polynomial expression. Spatially-reinforced composite deformations have been analysed taking into account the nonlinearity and rheological properties of the constituents and using the method of orientational averaging. The post-buckling behaviour of composite shells have been analysed by solving non-linear finite-element equations. A rational reinforcement and shell geometry for a multi-layer composite has been found. Methods for solving multi-objective optimization problems of the composite shells have been developed, with the reinforcement and geometric parameters as design variables. For numerical solution of the problem, methods of an optimum multi-factor design of experiments for non-linear models have been used.
