Some topics discussed are the following: the hydration of cement; reactions with sulfates and chlorides (sulfate attack, deleterious chloride reactions, methods of assessing resistance of cements and concretes, and correlation with field performance); the examination of concrete suspected of having been attacked by sulfates or chlorides; precautions against sulfate and chloride attack; and recommendations for durable concrete.
