Tapered roller bearings can be set to any desired axial or radial clearance when installed in equipment being manufactured on the product line. Tapered bearings can be set by a variety of methods, either manual or automatic. This paper describes each method to help selecting the most practical approach for equipment. The capabilities and limitations of each method as well as the skill level and tools required are presented.
