Reactions of neptunium with HNO2, HNO3 in purex process

A summary was made on the reactions of neptinium with nitrous acid and nitric acid in the Purex process. It was shown that in the nitric acid aqueous solutions and TBP organic solutions, the neptunium (VI) can be reduced to neptunium (V), and the latter can then be oxidized to the former again, hence there is an equilibrium between the Np(VI) and the Np(V); besides, under the radiation of alpha, beta, or gamma ray, a series of reduction/oxidation reactions could happen.
