High moisture measurement of grains using a capacitance-type meter

The performance of a capacitance meter commonly used in Taiwan for grain moisture measurement was compared with the air-oven method. The statistics of measured bias and variance was used as a criterion to determine accuracy and precision of the measurement. A non-linear calibration obtained from the relationship between measured values and standard values by regression technique was used to improve the performance. From the results obtained, measurement with the domestic CD-3 capacitance meters can be improved by an adequate calibration equation with the moisture range below 32% (w.b.). The factors of unit-to-unit for meters and harvested years of samples did not show a significant effect on the measured performance.
