ELECTRODEPOSITION OF IRON-COBALT ALLOYS: INFLUENCE OF ALTERNATING CURRENT.

The electrodeposition of Fe-Co alloys from acid tartrate bath was studied under various experimental conditions by super imposing alternating current on direct current. The alloy composition depends on the ratio of the alternating to the direct current, the frequency, the amplitude and the wave form. Alternating current decreased the cathodic polarization and the grain size of the deposit. Square wave was more effective and the triangular wave was least in brining about changes in alloy composition. The effect of alternating current is diminished with increase of either the density of direct current or the frequency of alternating current. The mechanism for the action of alternating current on the electrodeposition process is discussed.
