Polymerization of butadiene with TiCl4/SiO2 supported catalysts: I. Effect of preparation of catalyst on polymerization

The polymerization of butadiene with TiCl4/SiO2 supported catalyst was studied. The TiCl4/SiO2 catalysts were made by the ball-milling method. The experimental results showed that the preparing conditions of catalyst had obvious effect on the catalytic efficiency. The proper conditions were grinding for 48 h with 4% mass fraction of titanium; TiCl4/SiO2 reacting with Al(i-Bu) 2Cl at 100 °C for 1 h or SiO2 pre-treating with Al(i-Bu)3 before grinding could increase catalytic efficiency markedly. Polymerization of butadiene was a kind of solution slurry polymerization in 40 [similar to] 50 °C. The content of cis-1, 4-unit of the polybutadiene was about 56%.
