New compound Rubidium-Gold. Synthesis and Structure of Rb3Au7

Silver-coloured brittle single crystals of the hitherto unknown compound Rb3Au7 were synthesized by the reaction of RbN3 and gold powder at 500°C. The structure was determined from X-ray single-crystal diffractometer data: space group Cmmm, Z = 2, a = 5.585(2) A, b = 13.252(2) A, c = 7.258(1) A, R/Rw (w = 1) = 0.046/0.057, N(Fo2) ≥ 3σ(Fo2) = 405 and N(var.) = 22. The structure consists of a three-dimensional gold framework. Rubidium atoms occupy channel-like cavities within the gold partial structure.
