Silica fume cannot and, more importantly, is not intended to replace concrete. This is the difficult concept to get through. Silica fume is not going to reduce cement sales. It cannot be marketed as a replacement in competition with pulverized fuel ash (pfa) or ground granular blastfurnace slag (ggbs), it is just an addition. Silica fume is to be added to concrete, to give high-performance concrete, to give high-strengths never before thought of with ordinary grades.
