Various aspects of the use of biomass for electricity generation are presented. Agriculture residues and forestry are the commonly used biomass resources for energy generation. Various gasification technologies, such as fixed bed gasifiers fluidized bed gasifiers, and bubbling bed gasifiers, are developed with varying suitability. Bio oils are also produced by an advanced thermal process known as fast pyrolysis. Similar to gasification, different processes are also developed for pyrolysis. The transportation of biomass fuels and emission of NOx and particulate matter are reported to be barrier to the uptake of biomass for energy generation.
