Long-term availability of raw materials for rosin resins is a concern

Moves by Akzo Nobel and Ascona Resins to set up an alliance in gum resins has highlighted the extent to which the long-term availability of raw materials for rosin resins still remains a constant issue. European ink makers see rosin resins as a key component in inks and varnishes. However, there are mixed views on the effectiveness of alternatives, particularly those which are rosin-free rather than hybrids. History of rosin resins is marred by steep fluctuations in prices as supplies swing from surpluses to shortages. Hence, rosin resin makers have to show their customers that they have secure supplies of raw materials to ensure that the ink manufacturers remain committed to their products and do not seek alternatives.
