Data are presented which show that metal cations in the mobile phase, in conjunction with chiral reagents, may be used for the chromatographic resolution of optically active isomers. Liquid chromatography enables the analysts to achieve these difficult separations rather easily. Several approaches have been described in the literature. The common thread, in most of the successful attempts to resolve enantiometers, is the use of metal cations.
