BENELUX - EQUIPPING THE DEVELOPING WORLD.

At a time when cargo handling activity in the Benelux region shows few signs of immediate growth, Belgian and Dutch cargo handling equipment suppliers are making headway in the developing world. With certain exceptions, the absence of any market upturn in European cargo movements, has led equipment manufacturers to look to the development of new products - and the adaptation of existing ones - for markets in areas such as the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East. This article reviews a number of such products, which range in size and cost from a new style of sling for bagged cargoes, to a 50 tonne capacity quayside container gantry crane.
