摘要
One of the basic engineering operations carried out in installations for the production of sulfuric acid is the production of sulfur dioxide by burning sulfur which is fed in liquid form to a combustion chamber. Air, which is the oxidizing agent in this process, is fed simultaneously to this chamber. The combustion rate depends largely on the quality of sulfur stomization, carried out using rotary hydraulic atomizers, which, in addition to the energy of the associated liquid, make use of centrifugal forces acting in the rotary chamber of the atomizer. The object of using rotary atomizers of different construction was to create a model most effective with respect to atomization quality as well as the simplest in performance and in practical use. The basic structural dimensions of the rotary chamber were calculated from empirical equations given in the literature. It is found that structural changes depend on different methods of feeding auxiliary compressed air to the atomizer. The method of feeding this air directly to the rotary chamber and to other points of sulfur transfer proved impractical. The coreect solution depends on feeding the air through a separate channel beyond the sulfur transfer.
