NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF PILE FOUNDATIONS.

In the work reported, pipes 2. 5 cm in diam were embedded along the depth of the foundation while it was being cast. The transmitting and receiving probes were introduced into the pipes, and a fluid was used for acoustic coupling between the transducers and pipes. Laboratory tests were conducted by simulating defects which normally occur in the field. Pile foundations were constructed, in which different types of defects were introduced. The method can be used for testing pile foundations up to 75 cm in diam and 20 m in depth.
