HOW TO ESTABLISH A COST REDUCTION PROGRAM FOR PACKAGING DESIGN.

This article presents a plan for studying and implementing cost savings in packaging design. For the program to gain full support, an opportunity must be provided for all impacted departments to give their input. Once a cost savings has been made, it should be far easier to gain support for future projects. The author lists four possible approaches: (1) reduce packaging material cost; (2) change product characteristics; (3) reduce labor costs; and (4) reduce transportation costs.
