摘要
The papers referred to here are grouped in the proceedings of the conference under the heading: Thermoregulation System. The first (commentary) paper calls attention to the fact that, as the knowledge of physiologic mechanisms has increased, the attempts at synthesizing coherent concepts (models) have had to include more and more seemingly disparate physiologic data. Thus, every model designed to imitate regulation of body temperature falls victim to inherent deficiencies, redundancies or error. Therefore, no model should be taken as anything but the static statement of a dynamic process, i. e. , the development of understanding. It is claimed that recent physiologic research indicates that temperature perception is present throughout the entire animal and the sensory input is not limited to traditional perceptors of heat and cold. In general, there appears to be a convergence of a hierarchy of sensory information upon a central integrating device from which, following integration, is sent a divergent response pattern. Following is a list of titles and authors: Body Temperature Regulation: A critical Commentary on Selected Topics. By Leo C. Senay Jr. Overview of Human Thermoregulation. By Charles E. Huckaba and John A. Downey. Control of Heat Exchanges: An Alternate Concept for Temperature Regulation in Man. By Yvon J. Houdas, Annie Sauvage, Maryse Bonaventure, and Jean D. Guieu. Sweating Response in Human Thermoregulation. By Jan A. J. Stolwijk and Ethan R. Nadel. Mechanism Controlling Heart Rate Response to Temperature Stresses in Rana Pipiens. By Sherwin Mizell.
