摘要
The pyrolysis of pitch and polymeric resin binders produces two classes of carbon, of different structures, porosities, gas reactivities, mechanical properties, and thermal properties. Because very little information is available on structure-property relations for carbon binders in refractories, the likely properties of pitch-and resin-carbons are described using data for polygranular graphites and glassy carbons, respectively. The limitations of this approach must be borne in mind when reading this part of the review. A comparative summary of the properties of resin- and pitch carbons is given. The pores in pitch-carbons are mainly macropores and the presence of crack-like shrinkage pores profoundly affects the thermal properties of the carbons. Pores in glassy carbons are mainly microporous, although macropores are also likely to be present in resin binders.
