This paper outlines a step-by-step marketing approach to exploring the feasibility of recovering coal from reject deposits. Two phases are developed. Phase one focuses on research and planning and phase two deals with testing. Two case studies of firms operating in Southern Illinois in 1973 highlight typical activities in secondary recovery.
