Fibrous concrete is a composite material of concrete matrix with evenly distributed closely spaced steel fibers. Addition of a small amount of closely spaced and uniformly dispersed discrete steel fibers to concrete improves its static properties such as tensile, shear and flexural strength. An investigation undertaken at the University of Roorkee, to obtain information on shear characteristics of reinforced fiber concrete gave a maximum increase of 66% in shear strength compared to reinforced concrete. The ultimate failure load also increased by 66% adding fibers having an aspect ratio 80 and volumetric percentage 1. 0.
