A modification of the synthetic method for the preparation of dimeric benzaldehyde peroxide (3, 6- diphenyl-1, 2, 4, 5-tetroxane, DFT), and a study on the thermal decomposition of this compound are presented. DFT was prepared beginning with benzaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide in a concentrated sulfuric acid medium at -20 °C. The yield of DFT under these experimental conditions was 89%. The activation parameters for the thermal homolytic decomposition reaction of the DFT in benzene solution in the range of temperature 130-166 °C were calculated. The result showed that the proposed methods gave a high yield in comparison with the methods found in the literature.
