Driving an incredible 50km long aqueduct through the mountains behind the city of Naples in southern Italy is demanding the expertise of several Italian tunneling companies, using various methods of excavation through an equally mixed basket of geological conditions. It constitutes the largest such project ever undertaken in Italy and is proving a test bed for new tunnelling methods.
