A dynamic, self-altering algorithm has been developed to be implemented using Motorola 6800 microprocessor system. While the algorithm applies to an isolated intersection, with the addition of minimal software it is possible to link several such intersection controls forming a non-centralized yet synchronized modular traffic system. The algorithm's objective is to equalize the effective flow; that is, the number of vehicles serviced per allotted time, for each direction. The traffic control provided by the algorithm accommodates all standard traffic patterns and pedestrian walks.
