摘要
The need to improve procedures for monitoring the condition of buildings and structures, and for general maintenance purposes, has attracted considerable attention in recent years. The escalation in the cost of labour and materials, coupled with increasing emphasis on safety standards, has encouraged many people to look at ways of improving their maintenance procedures. Introduction of the microcomputer allowed for immediate entry, access and analysis of data, since the machine could be stationed close to the maintenance activities and was far less labour intensive, but still time-consuming and prone to inaccuracies.
