Intercity transport planning is a vital link in the overall transportation planning process, which directly affects both the urban transportation and regional transportation planning processes. Until recently, in developing countries like India, the intracity (urban) transportation planning has been attracting the attention of transport planners. The recent steep uptrend in intercity travel and the capacity shortage in basic transport infrastructure has created a need for better planning of intercity transport. The basic and important step in the transport planning process is the identifictation of the inter-relationships of various factors influencing travel demand.
