An automated synthesis of machine foundations based on methods of multiparameter optimization is proposed. The optimal characteristics of the foundations under Transient conditions are determined by a numerical method on a microcomputer by coupling a program for integrating the differential equations of motion with a multivariable optimization program. Experience with various methods of integration and optimization leads to the choice of a fourth-order Range-Kutta algorithm for integration and Box's algorithm for optimization. The effect of the mathematical formulation of the physical problem on the result, as well as the need to impose constraint conditions, is discussed and clearly illustrated by an example.
