摘要
The authors report that certain basic principles must be observed in the disposal of foundry wastes: Foundry wastes are all in the 4th risk class, but can be subdivided into three risk categories. No special precautions are required in the disposal of foundry wastes, and with the approval of the health authorities they can be dumped along with solid domestic refuse. If dumped separately, foundry waste disposal sites must be isolated from direct contact with water supplies for fisheries and human consumption and use. The base of the dump must lie above the water table. In marshy or waterlogged areas, a base of inert materials must be built up to at least 1 m above the maximum water level. Dumps should preferably be sited in natural ground hollows or quarries, mine workings, ravines, etc. , starting at the highest point in the surrounding terrain. Before starting dumping operations, the site must be stripped of fertile soil, which can be stockpiled round the site perimeter and eventually used in the rehabilitation operations.
