Analytic expressions for the critical conditions under which hydrodynamic thermal explosion in power-law fluids may be expected in flat or cylindrical rotary viscosimeter under various thermal conditions at cylinder walls are derived. Subcritical conditions for steady temperature and velocity fields are determined.
