Mechanical property determinations on ausrolled types 410 (12. 5Cr- 0. 10C) and 420 (13. 5Cr- 0. 35C) stainless steels are interpreted to show that carbide precipitation during ausworking is an important part of the overall strengthening process and that, perhaps, the strengthening effect could be increased in steels with a finer carbide precipitate if Ti, Mo, V, or Cb were included in the composition.
